“Enlightenment” at Eastern State Penitentiary didn’t work, but stopping prisoners from escaping did.

SYNOPSIS:

Benjamin Franklin tried to start a prison using solitary confinement as a way to change a prisoner’s bad behavior. It failed. But the prison, Eastern State Penitentiary, was built and it’s design served as an example for many other prisons to follow. John Frankford and Abe Buzzard stole horses and escaped from many jails. Neither could escape from Eastern and both ended up dying there.
