Smithereens, the first one, had suicide clean-ups. Smithereens II, the sequel, has drug overdoses.
Sue Smith continues searching for answers to her mother’s death which has haunted her since it happened almost twenty years ago. Her relationship with her partner, Joe, has grown to one of dependency. Sue, a young woman, has an outer shell of strength which often comes across as negativity. Joe tries to keep her on track with life.
Sue has a devotion to trees because they represent people she’s known who’ve died. Each crime she encounters allows her to develop a better personality.
Heroin overdoses become an obsession. She wants to learn all she can about drugs. A drug dealer seeks revenge on Sue and Joe, and Joe’s new girlfriend. Bullets fly and their lives are in danger. A police lieutenant, who’s taken an interest in Sue, comes to their aid. He begins a friendship with her that develops into a possible romance.  Sue and Joe plan on their crime clean-up future. Life and death philosophies are an important part of the dialogue. The script is intended to leave the reader with a new look at both.
